How to export your Outlook contacts to Excel – a NY computer help Microsoft Office tip

We get the technical support question from time to time:  How can I share my contacts with others.  The typical, but expensive way, is to set up Microsoft Exchange to share contacts continously.  However, if you’d like to take care of the Outlook task quickly as well as ensure the confidential data is not shared, there’s an  easier and faster route.

The fastest way is to export your Outlooks into an Excel spreadsheet.  By doing this, you can also manipulate the fields of data to remove any sensitive data as well as sort the spreadsheet according to another fields.

To export your Outlook contacts to Excel, perform the following steps:

  1. Open Outlook
  2. Click on File-> Import and Export
  3. Export to a File
  4. Microsoft Excel 97-2003
  5. Select your Contacts folder in Outlook
  6. Browse and select where you want to copy your contacts to
  7. You can map what contact fields should correspond to excel fields
  8. Click Finish
