Android users typically get the short end of the stick. All the apps are made for iPhones, and Blackberry devices have great email support. Now, fringOut balances out the perks for smartphones.
What is fringOut? It lets you call any cell phone or landline for free or low international rates. I think the advantage comes if you need to call internationally since most rates are only 1c per minute. Not bad at all considering you don’t have to require any special bulk phone to use it. Here’s the catch: only Android and Nokia phones are supported. More devices will be supported soon, but until now, Android gets the head-start.
Here’s the fringOut process: Like Skype, you can call other fring contacts for free. Calling non-fring users is 1c per minute for domestic and international calls. You may also IM, perform video calls, and send files. Texting is not available which is a downer.
Why would you want to use fringOut? If you want to try the Android, this is a great way to get costs low. This is how you can cheapify your Android experience:
- Buy an Android phone.
- Purchase a data plan and text message plan so you can use the phone for the Internet and texting.
- Use fringOut for the voice plan.
This is a great way to keep your calling plan, assuming you don’t speak 20 hours a day! The fring computer support is online-based only with no phone tech support. That sort of makes sense since how would you call if your voice account isn’t working?!
