Cisco routers are typically big beasts that are configurable only by hard-to-find console cables. Now, Cisco got smart and has created the Cisco RV 120W, a much smaller device that looks just like a typical Linksys wireless router. Best of all, you can configure it with a network cable or wireless connection like a normal router.
But, don’t just a book by its cover here. The Cisco RV 120W keeps up on specs with all the other network routers, such as the Linksys, Netgear, and Airport. Then, it goes an extra step to provide VPN support as well as allowing up to 1,000 concurrent users at a 95 MBps throughput. VPN throughput is 25 MBps by the way, both speeds being tops of their classes.
Here are the rest of the specs:
- 4 Ethernet ports
- Firewall
- Wireless N – enabled
It lists for $139 and for such has become our router of choice for small networks. It is not only a router, but also a firewall as well since it performs filtering and VPN functionality. You’re basically paying for a router, but getting a firewall without the cumbersome technical setup. Thumbs up on this one!
