Macs don’t get viruses, right? Wrong! Granted, Macs don’t get infected as much as PCs, but that’s because the computer support industry is still 90% PCs, 10% Macs. Keep in mind that a virus that infects a PC is safe on a Mac, and vice versa. That’s because a virus has to be formatted for either a Mac or PC, not both. So, these evil virus creators look to get more bang for their buck by going for the larger mass of PCs.
That being said, our computer technicians see the occasional Mac virus out there, and thus recommend installing an antivirus software for your Mac. Norton Antivirus used to be the only one available, but now there are a slew of different options. My favorite is Intego’s VirusBarrier X6.
Here are a few reasons why VirusBarrier is the best:
- Cost effective – Only $50 for 2 Macs or $100 for 5 Macs
- Robust – Protects against viruses, spyware, phishing, and firewall and network threats
- Slick interface – Displays real-time monitoring of viruses, spyware, and other features
The software computer setup is quick, and the antivirus software doesn’t bog down your computer like others do. It only takes up 40MB of space so it is light and peppy the way it should be. A plus is that this antivirus software is also compatible for the iPad which might not mean much, but shows me that this company, Intego, is fully updated and scalable for new devices. This is definitely worth trying out the 30-day free trial to see if you like it.
