Another Internet Explorer bug is upon us. According to Microsoft, this bug, dubbed zero day bug, poses as the user and sends an email as you. The serious threat comes when the attacker decides to collect the user’s information and interfere or cripple Internet Explorer.
How did the bug appear? There is a vulnerability with the Windows’ MHTML which is a web page protocol, handling Java, Flash and other video-style formats. These formats are handled natively with Internet Explorer versus as third-party add-ons in Firefox and Chrome. So, Internet Explorer, as always, has a bulls-eye on it.
How do you get rid of the bug or protect against it? As you should always do, make sure your antivirus software is up to date and running fine. Also, you’ll need to run Microsoft’s Fixit tool. The reason for being so proactive is because Microsoft’s patch for this vulnerability is due to come out only on February 8th. That’s plenty of time for the potential hacker to do destruction!
If you’re sick of all the Internet Explorer viruses, you might consider Firefox or Chrome. Their security has beefed up lately and have been pretty insulated against most Internet Explorer attacks.
