My wife and I recently went on vacation out of the country. But, we needed to stay in touch on our phones with email. She uses an iPhone and I’m on my Blackberry. If we didn’t do anything with our ATT plans, we would have been charged roaming. So, what’s an email support specialist to do?
Here’s the best way to save money while emailing on your phone internationally:
- Pay for the $20-$25 International data package. You will get up to 20MB of data for email and Internet usage on your phone. Plus, make sure to turn off your International data package off when coming home. It’s prorated so you most likely won’t be charged the whole $20-$25.
- Make sure to turn on wi-fi on your phone when possible. This will allow you to use a hotspot for free and not count towards your International data package.
- Don’t text. That’s an extra charge.
If you don’t need to use your phone or text, you can definitely get by with email and the occasional Internet service. Just don’t plan on streaming any movies since that will go over your data package plan right away. That’s the easiest way to get a good email tech support package for your phone when you leave the United States.
