It’s good to shut off your computer every once in a while. Every tech expert has his or her own specific tech support advice on how often, but it’s good to do it at least once a week. Why? It is not good to leave your programs and pages up for so long. It slows down the computer, but more importantly it could cause corruption with the programs colliding in the background registry items or when installing new programs.
Too lazy or forgetful to turn off your computer? Don’t worry, I have just the trick for you. You can install a program called Shutdown Timer. It’s free and can shutdown and turn on your computer so you don’t have to waste time waiting for Windows to load up.
Here’s what Shut Down Time can do:
- Shut down
- Restart
- Lock
- Log off
- Hibernate
- Go into monitor standby
- Open a file or webpage
There’s actually some intelligence behind this program as well. If you want, you can only have the computer shut down at a certain time when there are no running programs in the background. So, you can schedule your computer to gracefully shut down when nothing is running. Not bad. The program is like a regular alarm clock pretty much so Windows 7 tech experts need not apply.
