Our email specialist team gets this inquiry all the time, “I think my email has been hacked. Help!” But, how can you be sure your email account has been hacked?
If your email accounts have the following symptoms, you might have been hacked:
- Random bulk emails to all or some of your contacts.
- Normal password does not log you in to your email account.
- New emails are marked read already.
How can you be sure if you’ve been hacked or not? Now, you can go to Pwnedlist, an email hack check site, to do just that, find out if your email account has been hacked. Very cool, and right in time too since email hacking has been considerably on the rise.
If your email has been hacked, perform these steps:
- Change your email and computer passwords.
- Ensure your wireless computer network, if you have one, is password-protected.
- Call or email your email provider about your email security breach. Hopefully, they have a policy to flush out any internal vulnerabilities.
- Run a computer virus scan. The perpetrator may be spyware-induced.
