Photoshop usually carries with it a 4 digit price tag. $999 to be exact but 4 digits sounds more dramatic. Now, Adobe is throwing out a free Photoshop CS6 beta download. The CS6 version is now available to download. It’s in beta form, meaning that it’s not the final version and you’ll have to pay for it when the final version has been released. Until then, it’s expected to be several months of free Photoshop fun.
This is similar to how Windows support releases beta versions of its Windows 9 version before the final version has been released. But, Adobe and other high-end software companies haven’t put out beta versions before. This rarity is a good marketing strategy in the hopes to hook customers in. However, I hear a lot of our customers just using this new software for current projects, but will go back to their older Photoshop versions when the final version is released.
So, it’s a good way for customers to try it out without paying for it in the long-term. Adobe really should bring down the price of its new version if they really want to have solid sales. Similar to operating systems, folks are not jumping to buying it if they can revert to previous version. Of course, if Photoshop proves to showcase amazing tech support tricks and features, that’s another story. Only time will tell.
