There are only three Windows 8 versions to choose from. I’m all for that. It’s enough to have to worry about Starter, Home, Ultimate, Professional, and other fancy names.
Here are the Windows 8 support versions:
- Windows 8 – Similar to Windows 7 Home Premium with an updated Windows Explorer, Task Manager and optimized multi-monitor support. Most home users will be comfortable going with this version.
- Windows 8 Pro – Here’s the business version of Windows 8. You have easy computer network setups with this version as well as encryption, and virtualization. Microsoft support also decided to add Windows Media Center to this version for TV and an all-around multi-media experience.
- Windows RT – Only available on ARM processor computers, this version will improve battery life, include new touch versions of the Office suite, and showcase new web-connected apps.
I’m really happy the Windows service folks decided to consolidate the versions. Not only is it easy to manage from an Microsoft expert level, but users will not get lost as they did in the past with which version they should order.
