Usually, typing on an iPad is for email, Internet browsing, and documents. But, what if you have a spreadsheet to create or edit? What do you do? There are plenty of pseudo-excel programs or third-party that do their best to mimic Excel. DocsToGo and QuickOffice are a couple that do this, but do not perform perfectly.
CloudOn is a free app that basically runs a virtualized version of Microsoft Excel. It also has Word and PowerPoint for the iPad. The interface is just like the Microsoft Office suite so there is no learning curve. Another plus is that CloudOn meshes well with DropBox so you can easily save a file you’re working on to your DropBox account. The big benefit with CloudOn is that when it saves the files, it will save it in the native format of the document, excel spreadsheet, or powerpoint slide, allowing you to access your DropBox file normally from your computer or iPhone.
Other programs will force you to install the same software on your computer or iPhone support device to access it. With CloudOn, you’ll see the file like a normal Microsoft Office file. I like that a lot! Essentially, you don’t have to be a Microsoft expert, Microsoft word expert, or other IT guru to figure it out. It’s like your actually using Microsoft Office on your iPad. And it’s free!
