When I go to sleep, it’s lights out, shades down, and I don’t want to hear a peep from my iPhone. But, I have to leave it on so that I’ll hear the alarm in the morning so I can wake up and write these lovely blogs to you. Before the iOS 6 update, I had to mute my phone and make sure the vibrate option is off under sounds, phone calls, and anywhere else. But, the iPhone would still wake me up with its lights when someone called at a g-d-forsaken hour or a sport app had to let me know at 1 in the morning that the Yankees won in extra innings.
The Do Not Disturb option with iOS 6 is just about the best new feature I could ever dream of. Just one click of the button and your iPhone will let you sleep without calls, vibrations, lights, or any other action. It’s perfect if you’re sleeping, in a movie, meeting, or otherwise. Here’s the cool factor: You can list people on your “approved” list when your Do Not Disturb button is enabled. This comes in handy for your spouse, family member, babysitter, employer, or another possibly emergency call situation.
Here’s how to set up the Do Not Disturb option on your iPhone:
- Make sure your iPhone is updated to iOS 6.
- Go to Settings->Click On for Do Not Disturb.
- Still in Settings, go to Notifications->Do Not Disturb and then you can Allow Calls From either Favorites or specify a group or contacts.
- You can go a step further to schedule when to enable Do Not Disturb. In Settings->Notifications->Do Not Disturb, you may set up the scheduled time. Great for bedtime!
If the crescent moon is shown on the top of your iPhone, then Do Not Disturb is on. You don’t need to be an iPhone setup specialist, Apple tech, or other computer expert for this one. It’s really easy to set up and very useful.
