Believe it or not, MacBooks overheat too. It’s not just PC’s that decide to simmer and bake. As long as there is a a consolidated motherboard (or logic board in Mac language) along with lack of ventilation (it’s a laptop after all), well, then, your Mac is bound to overheat in the future.
But, with a few crafty ways, you can prevent your MacBook from overheating. Here’s how:
- Keep your MacBook on a flat surface. I know it’s comfy to lay your Mac on your bed or couch. But, that’s the number one overheating killer. That stifles the ventilation that your Mac needs. Don’t suffocate your Mac, people! Let it breathe. Instead, place a tray, book, or another flat surface under your Mac. It may require getting off your bed to do this which, of course, is tough work, but do it! It could save you hundreds in MacBook overheating fix repairs.
- Show some love to your fans. Every half a year or so, perform the Apple Hardware Test (if your Mac is pre-June 2013) or Apple Diagnostics (post-June 2013). You may start the diagnostic program by restarting your Mac and holding down the D key. Within the test, you’ll see the fans are tested. Don’t gloss over this one. We see a lot of overheated Macs coming into our Apple repair shop because one of the fans failed. You too can prevent forest fires..or hot Macs shall we say.
- Show more love to your fans. Take action! Buy a compressed air can at Staples or another hardware store and blow away any debris clogged up in the fan area. Allow for max airflow.
