Where to Fix Your Dell Laptop – Looking for Dell Certified Laptop Repair? – Should I have Dell fix it or go to a big chain store or go local?

Where to repair Dell laptopHere’s the situation:  Your Dell laptop isn’t working that way it should.  Maybe it stopped powering up or maybe it is slower than normal.  Whatever the case, it needs to be fixed.  You have options.  Should you go to Dell to get it fixed?  Should you seek out a Dell certified laptop repair center?  Should you go to a big chain store or a local NYC Dell laptop repair shop?

Let’s discuss Dell as a support option first.

Sleeping with phone on Dell tech support call

If you’re under warranty with Dell, okay great.  But, keep in mind, it’s not a quick process.  Dell will try to fix your issue first over the phone with an overseas outsourced IT person who will read a script until your patience level is well-tested.  Several hours later, a few departments later, and repeated efforts to request you just reinstall Windows first and delete all your precious files….you will then be asked to send in your laptop to Dell unless you have premium warranty options.  Please note that if you go with Dell as a support option, please back up your files first since one of the first things they’ll attempt is to reinstall your Windows operating system.

Pros:  If you have warranty with Dell, it will be free, but free always has a price tag with it.  See Cons below for the price tag.

Cons: Expect several hours on the phone that may put you to sleep.  Expect your files to be wiped out.  Expect a week to another week to be without your laptop if you ship it for warranty repair.  Expect lot of waiting!  Also, you should note that spills, drops, viruses, and any other customer-induced damage may void the warranty.

Pushy salesperson

Now, let’s look at a Big Chain Store.

As you can imagine, big chain stores are all about selling stuff.  So, the challenge with them is understanding if their motive of making a commission of selling you a new laptop is going to override the true reason and cost of your Dell laptop repair.  Big chain stores are good to see what other laptops are available as your next purchase, but for repairs, places like Best Buy’s Geek Squad will send your laptop to an offsite depot for 2-4 weeks.

Pros: It’s a good option if you’re leaning towards buying a new laptop and want to see other options/

Cons:  It’s a bad idea if you need your laptop quick.  Expect a 2-4 week turn-around and pushy salesperson who just wants you to buy a new laptop.

Finally, let’s check out a local Dell laptop repair shop.

A local shop should be all about customer service and living and breathing about its positive reputation.  Also, known as a Mom and Pop shop or local business, a local place like New York New York Computer Help best customer serviceComputer Help, is a perfect example of doing everything possible to achieve the best customer service experience.  Local Dell laptop repair shops are a great solution since well, they’re local!  You can bring it in, get it fixed, and won’t have to worry about calling tech support or sending away your Dell laptop.  This is THE perfect solution for getting your Dell laptop repaired.

Pros:  Fast turn-around, convenient, customer-focused, not sales centered, free diagnostics, solid Dell laptop expertise, trusted business and warranty

Cons: Not Dell which is actually a positive!

    1. The job itself is less than 1 hour. Not sure if you’re looking to replace the laptop or desktop network interface card (NIC) or in the wall jack.
