We enjoy a good service warranty like everyone else. A television warranty is a must. A refrigerator warranty is definitely needed. A computer service warranty is also a great thing. But, when the warranty runs out, what are your options?
Can you still get service from your manufacturer?
You can certainly try. But, keep in mind your manufacturer got enough miles out of you. This means, first they sold a computer to you. Plus, they charged you for the warranty you bought and may have used or not. If you didn’t pay for the warranty as an aside, don’t worry, they inflated the computer price to absorb the warranty service. One thing to note is out-of-warranty service from your manufacturer, such as Samsung, Dell, HP, Lenovo, IBM, and others will entail you shipping away your baby for repair. The repair won’t be cheap in most cases and the turn-around will be anywhere from 2 – 4 weeks.
Don’t lose hope. It can’t hurt to try to see if your manufacturer may extend the warranty especially if you’re just a few days or weeks expired from the warranty date. It can’t hurt to try, right? Putting on the cry baby face has been known to work with the likes of Dell, Apple, Lenovo, and HP support. Not always, but acting will come in handy here.
What about going back to the store you bought it from?
Sure, if they perform computer repairs. If not, then, they’ll just try to sell you another computer. If they perform repairs, it’s not a bad idea to price check what the repair will run you.
What about visiting a computer repair shop?
That’s an optimal idea. Computer repair shops specialize in out-of-warranty repairs and will even offer their own warranties on their computer service repairs. Most will offer a free diagnostic first so you can decide if it is the right solution for you.
So, there you have it. You have three options. You can go to your computer manufacturer to see if they have any out-of-warranty computer repair options that are worth the 2-4 week ETA and costs. Or you can check in with the store you bought if from. Lastly, you can opt to go with a local computer repair shop that specializes in out-of-warranty computer repairs.
