#1. Enroll on a Training Program:

If you are serious about improving your computer skills and you have the time and resources to do so, you might want to consider enrolling on a training program such as those provided by ONLC.  There are a wide variety of programs to choose from with something to suit everybody’s current experience level and their desired end goal. If you’re struggling with a certain topic, in particular, a training course can be extremely beneficial; working with a trained tutor can provide you with guidance when you need it, especially when it comes to topics that you don’t understand as well as others.

#2. Google It!

One of the best ways to learn more about computers is to, well, use your computer! Google is a quick, easy service to use when you’re looking to learn something new, and there’s certainly no shortage of blog posts, how-to guides, and instructions online that you can use to help you improve your current computer skills or learn something new.

We frequently point people struggling with Excel to this article on Excel. For other things YouTube is your friend.  YouTube videos are also an excellent source of information for learning new computer skills, with many providing step-by-step guides you can easily follow along and learn a lot from.

#3. Practice

Use as much spare time as you can to really practice the new computer skills that you have learned and familiarize yourself with computers as much as possible. In some cases, it might be useful to also learn how the internet works and familiarize yourself with using the internet as much as possible, too. As with anything, the more you use computers, the more your skills will grow and the more confident you will become.

#4. Challenge Yourself

There are many different aspects of computing and lots of different things you can try in order to put your newfound skills into practice and challenge yourself. For example, you could request to be put on a project at work that requires you to use a tool like Trello to track your progress or set yourself the task of creating a PowerPoint presentation. Or, if you’re feeling really up to a challenge, even build your own website. You can start off with using a free, user-friendly platform like Wix or WordPress, then build up to writing your own code if this is something that you are interested in learning.

If computers aren’t your strong point, getting to grips with them can seem overwhelming – but after the right amount of learning and practice, you’ll be using computers like a pro. And, boosting your computer skills is essential these days when it comes to work, communication, and much more.
