9/25/23, Yom Kippur: UES & SOHO repair centers are closed / Midtown will be open

During COVID-19, what’s the best way to get computer support in NYC?

COVID-19 is taking our world by storm. We’re all sheltered and trying to stay safe. If you’re like me and my team, you’re paranoid and sanitizing everything in sight. It’s a scary time and hope you and your loved ones are doing everything possible to remain healthy.

In the tech support end of things, productivity still needs to happen. As such, as an essential service in provide computer repairs and service, I want to make sure you know what the best steps are to get computer support during COVID-19.

The steps provided here are putting health and the least in-person time possible as the main goals.

1. Try remote support first.

If your computer powers on and gets Internet access, the least human-interacting was is by getting remote tech support. Think Zoom, but with a tech expert fixing your issue. With this way, you don’t have to leave your home and you’ll get speedy support.

2. In Manhattan? Have a hardware issue? Schedule a round-trip messenger.

If you can’t power up your computer, can’t get on the Internet, or have a cracked screen or another hardware issue, you’ll need to get your device to a repair center. With this issue, you can schedule a messenger so you don’t have to leave the house.

3. Outside Manhattan? Mail in your device.

Same issues apply as number 2. Your device has an imminent issue and needs hands-on support. Shipping your device is the best route here if outside Manhattan or New York. Or if you prefer to ship over messengering, this is your option.

4. Need quick help. Walk in. Or schedule an appointment to drop off.

If you can’t be without your device for long, walk into a computer repair shop, ensuring safe social distancing of six feet. You should receive a free diagnostic first followed by a peppy turn-around fix.

5. Is the issue at your place? Schedule a visit at your home.

This option should be reserved for last. Your home is your domain and all germs should be checked at the door. Of course, make sure your computer tech is healthy and takes CDC measures and precautions. This route is if your network, Internet, or something related to your place needs tech help.

To sum this all up, this pandemic has crippled our movements. But, we must empower ourselves to still remain productivity. Your computer and devices are a big part of your life. You may use them for Zoom video-conferencing for your kids. Maybe you are a remote worker from home. Or you may be on your devices to stay sane and connected. If you need tech help, get it. But, be sure to follow the above steps to ensure you remain as healthy and safe as possible while supporting your tech stuff.
