You dropped your iPhone. You spilled water on your iPhone or liquid on it. You dunked it in the toilet or pool. Whatever the case, you need to get your precious photos, apps, and videos back from your iPhone. Your videos and stored files may be important too. Tons of notes or tasks maybe? The point is you need a plan.
Here are the top 3 ways to get your photos, videos, and files back on your dead iPhone:
Try connecting your iPhone to your computer

- Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes
- Connect your iPhone to your computer.
- Put your iPhone into recovery mode by pressing the volume up button, then volume down button, then press and hold the top button until your device restarts into recovery mode.
- Locate your iPhone on your computer. Attempt to “Update” your iPhone.
- The Update may clear previous iOS issues.
- Do not “Restore” or it will wipe out your files.
Recover your photos and files from a good iCloud Backup

A “good” or more recent iCloud backup is the key word here. You may not know that your iCloud was performing a periodic or nightly backup of your files. Let’s hope and pray this was the case.
- Sign into your iCloud account from another device.
- Go to Settings->[your name]->iCloud->Manage Storage->Backups
- Tap a device listed under Backups see that last time it wat backed up
- The next step requires you have a good iPhone that you can wipe and recover to. Go to Settings->General->Reset, then tap Erase All Content and Settings
- On the Apps & Data screen, tap Restore from iCloud Backup, then sign in with your Apple ID
- Proceed to “Choose backup” then choose the backup you’d like to proceed with.
Have a 3rd party iPhone data recovery center recover your photos, videos, and files
Apple won’t help you with this. They’ll tell you to restore your iCloud Backup or you’re in trouble. Instead, get yourself to a local NYC iPhone data recovery company.
Here’s the process:
- First, you’ll receive a free iPhone diagnostic.
- It’s possible the iPhone may be repaired best case scenario so you have a working phone and all your files are accessible.
- Or there may be iPhone logic board repair needed or part damage that will require repairs
- Based on your iPhone damage, a full iTunes backup or file backup will be performed
- Your files will be restored to the same phone, different phone, or external drive.
