Cybersecurity Risks to Be Aware of in 2022

It seems that every year new cyber threats make themselves known and we all need to take even more steps to protect ourselves at home and at work in order to secure our personal data.

You’ve likely already heard plenty about cyber attacks, identity thieves, hackers, phishing scams, and so much more. But what are the cybersecurity risks and threats that you should be aware of as we move into 2022? A few of them are listed below to give you a better idea of what to expect.  And you’ll see how to have cyber security protection in 2022.

Be Sure to Protect the Data You Store in the Cloud

If you are like a lot of people, you probably use some sort of cloud-based storage system so that you can keep your data conveniently stored in a server that you can access from anywhere. Many businesses, too, have turned to cloud products in order to help their employees work better, especially as more and more people have started to work from remote since the COVID-19 pandemic caused so many lockdowns around the world.

In the event that you are using a cloud storage system, be sure to check if they encrypt your data. If they don’t, it is probably worth switching to a cloud provider that does. Remember, because they have become so popular, clouds may be vulnerable to cyber attacks in 2022 and beyond, so you will want to take steps to keep your sensitive and important data as secure as possible.

Be Aware of the Vulnerability of the Internet of Things

Like cloud-based services, the Internet of Things (also known as IoT) has grown substantially, with more and more individuals and businesses all over the world using products that can deliver attractive features. And as these products continue to become even more common and abundant in 2022, it will be necessary to take steps to ensure they can’t be attacked and hacked in various ways.

To protect your IoT devices, make sure the router is secure, and use encryption to protect yourself. Of course, you will also want to take steps to ensure that all of your devices are secure, but keep in mind that that may not be enough to fully protect yourself.

Continue to Protect Yourself Against Identity Theft

Identity thieves won’t be going anywhere, so they are yet another threat that you should be concerned about in 2022. And there are various ways that a criminal could end up gaining access to sensitive information that might put you at risk of having your identity stolen, so it is imperative that you take steps to protect yourself.

One thing you can do is remove information about yourself that is easy to access online, such as the details that can be found on Nuwber and other people search sites. You can also take other steps to control the information that is out there about you, making sure to remove it whenever it is possible to do so. And being cautious of scams, such as phishing scams, is also key because the last thing you’d want to do is give your information to a criminal without realizing what you’re doing.

2022 will be here before you know it, and it might bring more intense cybersecurity threats. But if you know what steps to take to protect yourself, you’ll feel a lot more secure.
