Are we getting social media crazy? – Too much social media?

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, FourSquare, Digg, and the list goes on and on. We need a personal social media manager just to manage our own personal online sites nowadays.

Is it too much? It is in the sense that people feel they have to tap into all the social media sites whether personal or for business. This isn’t Keeping up with the Jones’ people! The point is that you should use whichever site works for you. If you’re a woman’s fashion apparel company, use Pinterest to capture the latest image of your spring tank top collection. Got a discount for the next basketball game at MSG? Announce it on Facebook or Twitter. Want to snap a shot of a customer or yourself for a selfie at an event. Use Instagram and hashtag a cool snippet.

Don’t go watering down the whole social media universe by using the same message and connecting it to all your social sites. That reduces the importance of your message and confuses your fan base. Stick with one social media site that works for you, blast away at it, get fans, likes, pins, whatever and be a star on it versus a low level user on all mediums.

Living by this social media credo will keep all social mediums relevant, focused, and valued. In turn, we won’t be overwhelmed by all the social sites that continue to be launched.
