Let’s face it.  The Mac dock could be downright difficult to find your programs.  All the icons are lumped together with no organization at all.  It’s not easy to see where things are unless you take the time to color-coordinate them.

What if there’s a way to create a space between your dock icons?  Well, that leads me to the perfect transition to how I can solve that for you.  With a simple command, you can create spaces between your icons on the dock.

Here’s how to create spaces between your Mac dock icons:

  1. Go to Applications->Utilities->Terminal
  2. Copy and paste the following command: defaults write persistent-apps -array-add ‘{tile-data={}; tile-type=”spacer-tile”;}’
  3. Hit: Enter
  4. Then type: killall Dock
  5. Hit: Enter

This will create a space for you so you can organize your icons accordingly.  You can place browser icons as one subset, music apps on another, and finally chat icons as a last set.  Mix and match.  You can also remove the spacer if you don’t like it.

Mac geniuses need not apply.  IT experts can stay home on this.  This is a do-it-yourself-er IT job.
