How to fix Dropbox permissions errors in OS X – Fix Dropbox issues

Fix-dropbox-permissions-errorDropbox is great to share with your Mac to other computers or even a full computer network Sometimes, Dropbox is pushed to its limits and errors out though.

If you get the common “cannot transfer “your file” because it does not have permission to access come of the files being copied,” don’t fret.  There’s an easy do-it-yourself IT solution for that.

Here’s how to fix dropbox permissions errors in OS X:

  1. Open Dropbox->Menu extra->Gear icon->Preferences->Account
  2. Go to Option Key and click the “Fix Permissions” button
  3. If that still doesn’t work, then run a home folder permissions fix by rebooting and holding Command-R keys at startup to go into Recovery Mode.
  4. Then, go to: Utilities->Terminal and run the command “resetpassword”
  5. Select your hard disk->username and click the reset home folder permissions button.
  6. Reboot, log into your account and test out Dropbox again.

You should only have to go as deep as steps 1 and 2, but steps 3 through 6 are there in case you’re still having Dropbox issues.
