How to set up Messages – Easiest way to set up Messages – Set up Messages across Mac, iPhone, and iPad – Messages setup for Mac – Mac Messages setup

%image_alt%With Mountain Lion, you can use the new instant messaging app called Messages.  If you were a fan of iChat, you’ll like this replacement.  You can send your iMessages so that you can pick up the last one via your iPhone or iPad so you’re not pinned down to one particular device.

Here’s how to set up Messages on your iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings->Messages->Tap on “Receive At” option
  2. Ensure your phone is receiving iMessages at your phone number and Apple ID

Here’s how to set up Messages on your iPad:

  1. Go to Settings->Messages
  2. Make sure your phone and ID are properly inputted.

Here’s how to set up Messages on your Mac:

  1. Go to Messages on your Mountain Lion operating system
  2. Click Preferences and sign in with the same Apple ID as your other devices

To activate Messages so it goes across all your devices, tell your friends to message your Apple ID instead of your phone number.  That’s it!  No need to be an Apple expert, Mac service guru, or computer genius.
