How to uninstall Windows 8.1 – How to remove Windows 8.1 – Best way to get rid of Windows 8.1

Uninstall-windows-8.1-nycNot liking the new update, Windows 8.1?  You can get rid of it.  There are a few reasons why you may not like it.  But, whatever the reason, Windows 8 support includes in its Windows 8.1 install that after you install Windows 8.1, you won’t be able to go back to your previous version of Windows.  That’s a little weird.  You can’t go back?  I thought this is just a dot 1 or .1 update, not a full operating system install.

So, if you’re really not happy with Windows 8.1, how do you uninstall it?  You can do so by refreshing and resetting your Windows computer.  This can be done by going to the Charms bar->Settings->Change PC Settings->General and scroll down to the Refresh section.  Follow the default steps from there to bring your computer back in time to Windows 8.  It’s like the old restore function, but it’s called Refresh instead.  It is wise to back up your files first.  Any current Windows 8 corruption may cause issues during the refresh, causing file loss.  Hey, it’s better to be safe than sorry and not deal with expensive data recovery service.

One caveat here is you may need the physical Windows 8 installation media to complete the refresh, or Windows 8.1 uninstall.  If you’re stuck with this one, you should contact your PC support manufacturer, i.e. Dell, HP, Lenovo, and let them know you need the original media for a refresh / reinstall.  If you’re still within warranty, this should be free.  If not, the cost should not be too substantial.
