Mac OS X Lion upgrade – pros and cons – lion support

%image_alt%Over a million Lion upgrades occurred over the first few days of the Mac OS X Lion launch. We all know the great features of Lion, namely how it seamlessly turns into an iPad-like screen with apps.  But, how did the Lion upgrade fare?  Was it smooth?

Lion upgrade pros:

Lion upgrade cons:

  • Mostly 3rd party software issues that don’t work afterwards or have bugs, including: Cisco VPN, Java, Adobe programs, and select graphic drivers.
  • Wi-Fi connection issue. Many iMacs and MacBook Pros have been reporting unstable wireless connections after the upgrade.  Apple support has no IT solution for this yet.
  • Sluggish performance. Some Apple users have claimed Lion has slowed them down.  But, they may have slow RAM, processor or maybe a failing hard drive that could be contributing to this speed.

Overall, the upgrade to Lion has been a successful one.  Apple cannot be responsible for 3rd party software companies not making their software compatible with the Lion operating system.  That being said, Apple should post some warning or disclaimer prior to the upgrade naming which software may not be compatible.  If you’re planning to upgrade your Mac, the safest way is to uninstall the above problematic software applications to ensure there are not issues going forward.
