You need a computer repair. Should you schedule an onsite tech repair or drop off your computer?

Computer repair should be quick and painless.  In terms of how long the computer repair takes, it depends on the severity of the computer issue and if replacement parts are needed.  Without computer parts, computer repair typically takes 1-3 hours of time to fix a crashed computer.  If parts are required, the turn-around could be 1-3 days depending on when the part arrives.

When you choose a computer repair shop, you should first determine if it is more effective to have a computer technician come onsite to your place or drop your computer off.  Most computer shops only go out to your place; however, there are a good select few that also offer drop-offs.  Drop-offs are ideal for computers that need part replacements.  Why? That way, you can get a full quote of your computer versus a tech needing to make 2 visits onsite: the first visit for the diagnostic and part order and the second visit to install the part and test.  When dropping off your computer at an NY computer shop, the place will be able to test to see which parts work and you should only be charged for the finished, working computer.

Alternately, if your computer needs to be configured for software, a wireless network, optimized, or other quick computer repairs, having an onsite tech appointment is the way to go.  It is convenient, requires one appointment, and should be relatively quick.
